The Executive Director
|
|
Before the vestry called me as Rector, I told them I could pastor and lead Truro into its mission, but could not do so if I also had to manage a staff of 100 and a budget of 4 million. I asked them to authorize me to hire an Executive Director to manage and direct the staff, so I could bring my gifts to Truro’s greatest needs. The vestry honored this request in my Letter of Agreement.
The vestry approved the Executive Director position, and Warren Thrasher filling it, at their June 22nd meeting. This week Warren has accepted my call to be Truro’s first Executive Director.
I am especially grateful to God because Warren is uniquely qualified to fill this post. First, he has a distinguished business background with success in starting and growing a company. Second, and just as important, Warren has a deep knowledge and love for Truro, its staff, and people. He is committed to helping me move Truro to a new season of spiritual vitality, growth, and mission.
Executive Directors (some denominations call it Executive Pastor), are common in large parishes like Truro. Many pastors who do not see business management as their forte often opt for such an associate. This, in turn, frees them to bring their best gifts to the congregation. There is a network of these church leaders around the country and I have asked Warren to familiarize himself with their work so that he brings their best practices to our staff and parish.
Warren will be working very closely with me in the months ahead. With the numerous staff openings, we are able to add this position without adding to the overall budget. With ensuing fluidity on staff, his expertise is all the more advantageous at this time. I am grateful for his and Emily’s past service to Truro and I am especially delighted he is partnering with me in this new venture for Truro.

Your Brother in Christ,
Tory Baucum
